Child’s Journey Through Permanence: From Early Intervention to Legal Permanence
Securing permanence for children and young people is widely recognised as complex and challenging work for practitioners but is essential for children and young people who are unable to return home. This workshop explores legally competent and evidence informed practice surrounding:
- being permanence aware from the outset
- early intervention with families
- planning for children when they are placed away from home
- what’s important when making permanence decisions
- obtaining a permanent legal order
- post order support
Who should attend?
This workshop is aimed at practitioners who are new to permanence work and will focus on the key principles in relation to good practice. The content is informed by the Good Practice in Permanence Guides, produced by AFKA Scotland in 2026 and will consider the research, legislation, guidance and policy which informs best practice in permanence.
