During Adoption Week Scotland in November 2024, we held a ‘Conversation Café’ and thought members would be interested to view the Report produced. The event provided an opportunity for people to discuss some key areas identified by the Independent Care Review in 2020 as ‘What Matters’ to children, young people and families; these were organised around the 5 foundations of the Promise which included Voice, Care, People, Scaffolding and Family.
The event was attended by 44 participants, being a mix of people with experience of adoption: adoptees across a large age range and experience, adopters, and practitioners working with adoptive families. The Minister for Children, Young People and The Promise attended for part of the event alongside members of the Promise and Oversight Board.
Before the event, AUK #EProject children and young people’s group came together to discuss the questions for the café in advance and a selection of their responses was presented on the day. The full collection of quotes from the group are included in this report.
